YouTube Video Description Templates Pack
The video description is the hardest-working text most creators never write well. It feeds YouTube’s understanding of your video, carries your links and timestamps, and shows up in search results — yet most descriptions are two vague sentences or a wall of hashtags. A good description takes five minutes with a template and pays off on every upload for years.
This free pack gives you 8 copy-paste description templates for the video types creators actually make: tutorials, product reviews, vlogs, podcast episodes, gaming videos, travel videos, interviews, and a default template for everything else. Each template has the hook line, chapters, links, and disclosure sections in the right order. Fill the brackets, paste, publish.
What’s inside this template pack
Every template follows the same proven structure: a hook in the first two lines (visible before the fold), a longer summary, timestamped chapters, your important links grouped together, and a standard disclosure and hashtag block. The tutorial template adds a resources section for tools mentioned; the review template adds a verdict line and affiliate disclosure; the podcast template formats guest links; the gaming template includes settings and specs viewers always ask about. The default template at the end works for anything that does not fit the others.

How to use this template pack
- Pick the template that matches your video type, or use template 8 for anything unusual.
- Write the hook first — the first two lines decide whether anyone clicks “show more” or clicks away.
- Add real timestamps while editing, not after uploading; copy them straight from your editing timeline.
- Group your links under clear labels and put the most important one (newsletter, product, subscribe) where it cannot be missed.
- Save your finished description as your own reusable template — after three uploads you will have a personalized version that takes two minutes.
The most common description mistake is burying the value. Viewers and the algorithm both read top-down: hook, summary, chapters, links. Anything important that sits below an unlabeled wall of hashtags might as well not exist. Front-load what matters and the rest takes care of itself.
Frequently asked questions
How long should a YouTube description be? Front-load the essentials into the first two to three lines — roughly 150 to 200 characters — since that is what appears before the “show more” fold and in search snippets. Below the fold, be generous: chapters, resource links, guest bios, and disclosures all belong there. A long, relevant description helps YouTube understand and recommend your video.
Do keywords in the description still help rankings? Yes, when they appear naturally. YouTube reads your description to figure out what the video covers, so writing real sentences that include your topic’s key phrases genuinely helps. What does not help is a block of comma-separated tags or the same keyword repeated ten times — that reads as spam to both viewers and the algorithm.
Should every video have timestamps? For anything longer than a few minutes, yes. Timestamps turn into clickable chapters, which help viewers navigate and can earn your video extra jump-to links in Google search results. Keep chapter titles short, descriptive, and honest about what is in each segment.
