Free URL Slug Generator — SEO-Friendly Permalinks

October 12, 2026 · 2 min read · By the DollarWise team

Messy URLs with capitals, spaces, and punctuation hurt readability and sharing. Paste a title — or a whole list of titles, one per line — and get production-ready slugs instantly: lowercased, accents folded to plain letters, punctuation removed, words joined by hyphens (the format Google recommends). Optionally strip stop words and cap the length for tight permalinks.

URL Slug Generator

Clean, lowercase, hyphenated slugs from any title — one at a time or a whole list at once, converted as you type.

How it works

The tool normalizes Unicode accents (é becomes e), lowercases everything, replaces anything that is not a letter, digit, or space, and joins words with your separator. Stop-word mode removes short filler words (a, the, how, to) that add length without meaning, and the length cap trims at a word boundary so slugs never end mid-word.

Everyday uses

  • Bloggers — clean permalinks for every draft title before publishing.
  • SEO audits — batch-convert a content plan’s titles into a URL map.
  • Developers — generate route and filename slugs that match your framework’s rules.
  • Migrations — turn legacy page titles into the new URL structure in bulk.

Frequently asked questions

Hyphens or underscores?

Hyphens. Google has recommended hyphens as word separators in URLs for years; underscores are treated as joiners.

Should I remove stop words?

For very long titles, yes — “how-to-bake-bread” beats the full sentence. For short titles, keeping natural words is fine.

Can slugs contain numbers?

Yes — years and quantities (2026, 10-tips) survive conversion and often help clicks.
