Free PDF Metadata Viewer — Check PDF Properties Online

October 14, 2026 · 2 min read · By the DollarWise team

Every PDF carries hidden metadata — who created it, when, with what software, how many pages it has, even whether it’s encrypted. This tool reads all of it instantly, right in your browser, without uploading your document anywhere. Handy for checking a file before you submit it or verifying a document someone sent you.

This tool runs entirely in your browser — inspect as many PDFs as you like. Your files never leave your browser.

    How it works

    • Step 1 — Drop in any PDF. It’s parsed directly in your browser’s memory — nothing is uploaded.
    • Step 2 — Hit Read PDF Info. The tool decodes the document’s info dictionary, page boxes, file header, and encryption status, and shows each property as its own card.

    Everyday uses

    • Before submitting — check that your resume or manuscript actually has a title and author set, not “Microsoft Word” defaults.
    • Receiving files — verify a contract’s page size and page count before printing it.
    • Research — see creation dates and producer software to judge a document’s age and source.
    • Troubleshooting uploads — check PDF version and encryption when a portal rejects your file.
    • Privacy cleanup — spot leftover author and keyword metadata before sharing a file publicly.

    Frequently asked questions

What does “Not set” mean? The PDF simply doesn’t store that property. Many files carry blank titles or authors — this tool just reports what’s there honestly.

Can it read encrypted PDFs? If the file is password-protected, the tool detects the encryption and still reads the metadata it can reach, but page contents stay unreadable without the password.

Why is the page size in points? Points (1/72 inch) are the PDF standard. The tool also converts to inches so you can compare with US Letter (8.5 × 11 in) or A4 (8.27 × 11.69 in).

Is my document private? Yes. Everything runs locally in your browser. Your files never leave your browser, and nothing is stored or uploaded.
