How it works

Georgia starts from your federal AGI, then subtracts deductions before applying its single flat rate. For 2026 (per HB 463, signed May 11, 2026, retroactive to January 1, 2026): taxable income = AGI − standard deduction (or itemized) − $5,000 per dependent − up to $1,750 each of qualified overtime and tips; then tax = taxable income × 4.99%, minus the new $250 per-child-under-6 credit (nonrefundable). There are no brackets and no separate personal exemption for 2026.

Sanity check: $75,000 AGI, single, standard deduction → ($75,000 − $15,000) × 4.99% = $2,994. The tool reproduces this exactly.

Everyday uses

  • Paycheck planning — know what Georgia takes before you file.
  • Job offers — compare an Atlanta move against another state’s tax burden.
  • Freelancers — set aside the right amount for quarterly GA estimated payments (Form 500-ES).
  • Families — see what the $5,000 dependent deduction and $250 young-child credit are worth.
  • Overtime workers — check the value of the temporary 2026–2028 overtime/tips deductions.

Estimate only: this tool covers the core 2026 rules (flat 4.99% rate, standard/itemized deduction, dependent, overtime/tips and child-credit provisions). Retirement-income exclusions and itemized subtractions aren’t modeled — consult a tax professional for complex returns.
