How it works

Type any text to see it as 8-bit binary code, paste binary to decode it back into readable text, or convert a decimal number into binary, octal, and hexadecimal. Everything converts live as you type.

Everyday uses

  • Students: check binary homework and understand how computers store letters as bytes.
  • Puzzle and escape-room fans: decode binary clues hidden in games, ARGs, and CTF challenges.
  • Developers: quick decimal to binary, octal, and hex conversions while debugging permissions or color codes.
  • Fun messages: send a friend a note written entirely in binary and let them decode it here.

Frequently asked questions

How does text become binary? Each character has a numeric code (ASCII). The letter A is 65, which is 01000001 in binary. This converter shows every character as one 8-bit byte.

Why does my binary not decode? Each byte must be a complete group of 0s and 1s, and the input can contain nothing else. A missing digit shifts every following character, so paste the full code including all leading zeros.

What is the difference between binary, octal, and hex? They are the same numbers written in different bases: binary counts in 2s, octal in 8s, decimal in 10s, and hexadecimal in 16s (using digits 0–9 and letters A–F).
