How it works

Enter your gross annual income (before tax) and the calculator walks through each of the five Australian resident tax brackets for the 2026–27 financial year. Only the dollars inside each bracket are taxed at that bracket’s rate — so a $90,000 income puts $26,800 in the tax-free bracket at 0%, $26,800 in the 15% bracket ($4,020 tax), and the remaining $45,000 in the 30% bracket ($13,500 tax), for $17,520 of income tax. A 2% Medicare levy is added on top ($1,800 on $90,000), giving a $19,320 total and $70,680 take-home. The low-income reduction checkbox mirrors the ATO rule for single taxpayers: no levy below $28,011, phasing in at 10 cents on each dollar above it until the full 2% applies at $35,013.

Disclaimer: This is an estimate for Australian residents for tax purposes for the 2026–27 year and may not reflect deductions, offsets, the Medicare levy surcharge, HECS/HELP repayments, or super guarantee contributions. Foreign residents and working holiday makers are taxed at different rates — this calculator does not cover them. Check the ATO for your exact liability.
