US, UK & EU Shoe Size Conversion Chart (Free Converter)
Ordering shoes online from another country? A US 9 is not a UK 9, and EU sizes speak a different language entirely. Get the conversion wrong and you are paying return shipping.

How to measure your feet (do this first)
Conversions are approximations — your foot length in centimeters is the ground truth.
- Measure in the evening, when feet are at their largest.
- Stand on a piece of paper (sitting under-measures) and trace around your foot holding the pen vertical.
- Measure heel to longest toe in centimeters.
- Do both feet — use the larger measurement.
- Add 0.5–1 cm of wiggle room for comfort (more for running shoes, less for dress shoes).
- Match the cm number to the chart above or punch it into our free shoe size converter for an instant US/UK/EU result.
Quick conversion rules of thumb
- Men’s US → UK: subtract ~0.5 (US 10 ≈ UK 9.5).
- Women’s US → UK: subtract 2 (US 8 ≈ UK 6).
- US → EU: add roughly 33–34 to men’s US (US 9 + 33.5 = EU 42.5) — but use the chart, not math, at the edges.
- EU → cm: EU sizes are “Paris points” — each full size ≈ 6.67 mm of foot length.
Why sizes still go wrong
Brand lasts differ. Nike, Adidas, and Clarks all shape their shoes on different foot molds. A US 9 in one brand can fit like an 8.5 in another. The brand’s own size chart (with cm/insole length) beats any generic conversion.
Width matters. Standard charts assume medium width (D for men, B for women). Wide or narrow feet need the brand’s width options, not just a length conversion.
Shoe type changes fit. Running shoes run small (size up half), dress shoes run narrow, and boots vary wildly. Read reviews for “runs small/large” notes before ordering.
Kids’ sizes are separate. Children’s US/UK/EU conversions follow different scales — do not extrapolate from adult charts.
Frequently asked questions
What is a US size 9 in UK and EU? Men’s US 9 ≈ UK 8.5 ≈ EU 42.5. Women’s US 9 ≈ UK 7 ≈ EU 40. Always check the brand’s own chart, since conversions vary slightly.
Are UK and US shoe sizes the same? No. Men’s UK sizes run about 0.5–1 size smaller than US (US 10 ≈ UK 9.5); women’s UK sizes run about 2 sizes smaller (US 8 ≈ UK 6). EU sizes use a completely different numbering.
How do I measure my foot for shoe size? Trace your foot on paper in the evening (feet swell during the day), measure heel-to-toe in cm, and match to a size chart. Leave 0.5–1 cm of wiggle room.
Why do shoe sizes differ between brands? There is no enforced global standard — each brand uses its own ’last’ (foot mold). Conversions are approximations; the brand’s centimeter/insole measurement is the most reliable number.
