# Print-Ready PDF Checklist for Designers — free download from DollarWise (dollarwise.xyz)

The checks follow the print pipeline: page setup first, then colour, then type and images, then a final proof. The last five checks are the ones people skip under deadline pressure — and the ones that prevent the most expensive reprints.

PAGE SETUP (1-5)
Page size matches the printer's specification exactly.
Bleed extends 3 mm (or 0.125 in) past the trim on all sides.
Crop marks are included and sit outside the bleed.
Safe margins keep important content away from the trim edge.
Page count and order match the brief, including blanks.
COLOUR (6-10)
Colour mode is CMYK, not RGB, throughout the file.
Spot colours are named consistently and used intentionally.
Rich black is used for large black areas; plain black for small text.
Colour profiles are embedded and match the printer's specification.
No RGB images or elements remain hidden in the file.
TYPE AND IMAGES (11-16)
All fonts are embedded — no missing-font warnings.
Body text is at least 7 pt; small print is checked at 100% zoom.
Text is not outlined unless the printer specifically asked for it.
Images are at least 300 dpi at their printed size.
Logos are vector files, not screenshots or web downloads.
Overprint settings are intentional, not accidental.
FINAL PROOF (17-20)
Spelling and numbers have been checked by a second person.
A printed proof has been checked under real light.
The file name includes the job, size, and version.
The printer has confirmed receipt and the file opens cleanly.
